Velvet Sunsets
VELVET SUNSETS
From where I am are the best sunsets;
Always different, yet forever sad
Masking in red orange sweetness
Or with deep melancholic yellow
Unbounded hues of longing and struggle
Beneath near midnight blue skies
Quick to vanish underneath
Each and everyone’s sea of apathy and confusion;
Drowning each and every unforgiving day,
Only to be given life that is lifeless
And loveless still while you seemed so far away
Always drawing tears from the innermost
Pits of loneliness and profoundest romances
Where silence and knowing is
The only friend and companion –
Funny, we differ in looking at sunsets
Though alike in placidly keeping watch –
It must be that we warmly held hands
And smiled while it faded away.
